Comprehension & Writing (Oxford)

At Mindful Education, we are proud to offer a premium literacy programme based on the respected Oxford Comprehension & Writing series. Designed for students who are ready to go beyond basic reading and writing, this programme strengthens higher‑order thinking, deep comprehension, and structured written expression.

With a level‑based progression and a curriculum grounded in Oxford’s internationally recognised approach, students learn to read with insight, analyse text with clarity, and write with confidence and purpose.

A Structured, Level‑Based Literacy Journey

The program consists of 12 progressive levels, each carefully designed to build essential skills step by step. Students alternate between reading and writing lessons, ensuring balanced development across both areas.

Students learn to:

  • Understand different text types and their structures
  • Identify key ideas, themes, and supporting details
  • Analyze vocabulary, tone, and author intention
  • Apply reading insights to their own writing
  • Build academic vocabulary and expressive language
  • Helps students move from surface‑level reading to deeper comprehension and thoughtful writing.

Three Core Pillars of the Programme

Systematic Reading & Text Analysis

Students explore a wide range of genres — including narratives, informational texts, letters, reports, and more.

Through guided analysis, they learn to:

  • Recognise text structures and organisational patterns
  • Identify main ideas and infer deeper meaning
  • Understand cause‑and‑effect, sequencing, and comparison
  • Develop critical thinking and logical reasoning
  • Builds the foundation for strong comprehension skills required in upper primary and beyond.
Mind Mapping for Clear, Organised Writing

To help students write with structure and confidence, we teach them how to use mind maps to plan their ideas.

Students practise:

  • Break down writing tasks into clear sections
  • Organise ideas logically before writing
  • Expand content with relevant details
  • Build paragraphs with coherence and flow
  • Transforms writing from a stressful task into a manageable, step‑by‑step process.

Writing with Purpose, Structure, and Style

Students practise writing across multiple genres, learning the conventions and expectations of each.

  • Narrative writing (story structure, character, setting, plot)
  • Descriptive writing (sensory details, imagery, vocabulary choice)
  • Informational and factual writing
  • Opinion and response writing
  • Formal writing such as letters and reports
  • By understanding how different text types work, students learn to write with clarity, accuracy, and confidence.

Classroom Experience: Analytical, Creative, and Supportive

Lessons are designed to challenge students intellectually while keeping them engaged and motivated.

Activities include:

  • Text deconstruction and discussion
  • Vocabulary building and usage practice
  • Mind‑map planning and idea organisation
  • Guided writing with teacher feedback
  • Independent writing tasks to build confidence
  • Comprehension exercises that strengthen exam readiness
  • Students learn in a structured, nurturing environment where expectations are clear and progress is measurable.
